February is all about LOVE – and for a lot of foster children and youth, life is definitely not a box of chocolates.  The entire month of February 2018 is dedicated to making a difference for foster kids.  Be the change for foster kids: join the SOS BC Village and spread the word!

We are promoting your I ♥ SOS BC fundraising events throughout February.  This is your chance to raise money and awareness to help SOS Children's Village BC foster kids in ways that are fun, engaging, family-friendly, and creative.  If it’s easy to do, legal, and doesn’t require life insurance … go for it!

We will have some prizes for different categories!  Free website and social media listing of your event!  Our 2018 goal is $25,000, including 100 new monthly donors.

Listing Of Participating Events

Our February I ♥ SOS BC month got off to a great start on Saturday the 3rd!

With a full house and heartfelt generosity, the Benefit Concert at the Vancouver Alpen Club was a roaring success.  Our strong and steadfast friends and families in the German speaking community made this one of their largest fundraising events in years!  The AVC Edelweiss Dancers included lively folk dances, hilarious mischief by their younger members, some audience-participation cowbell ringing, and gorgeous Alpen horn music.  The Concordia and Melody Choirs and Zither soloist Leo Kresitschnig all performed beautifully.

The Alpen Club graciously hosted the event and many volunteers provided valentine decorations, cookies, raffle items, and (wo)man power.  The afternoon was perfectly in the spirit of SOS BC: a loving community of caring people coming together to help children, and having a lot of fun doing it.

All in all, the event raised an impressive $11,389.80 from the very generous audience.  The largest donation of the day was from Werner Hoing, who supported SOS BC with a cheque for $3,000.  We also understand that many audience members brought in donations from friends and family who were unable to attend the event.  Every donation comes from a loving heart - it really does take a village!  We are so grateful for everyone who organized, attended, and donated.

ALS Annual Charity Drive

Employees and families of employees are participating in this event which includes a 50/50, bake sale, samosa sale, live auction, basket raffle, pub night, and directed giving through the United Way.  For the past 20 years ALS has been running a campaign for local charities and this year they want to help raise money and goods for SOS Children's Village BC and the SOS Children's Village Thrift Store Foundation.  The big kickoff event for all staff, 160 people, is February 22nd, with the drive lasting until March 8th.

Vancouver Premiere of Around the World in 80 Anthems Documentaries
Date: February 25th
Time: Short film at 1pm, Feature film at 2pm
Location: The Cinematheque, 200-1131 Howe Street, Vancouver

Capri Everitt and her family live in Vancouver and contacted SOS Children's Village BC a few years ago about this crazy idea they had.  They embarked on an incredible trip around the world singing 80 anthems in 80 countries to raise money for SOS Children's Villages.

We are thrilled to invite you to the private Vancouver Premiere of SOS youth ambassador Capri Everitt's 80 Anthems Documentaries!

Tickets range from $7 to $11, with the entire ticket price being donated to SOS Children's Village BC.  The screenings take place on Sunday February 25th at The Cinematheque on Howe Street in Vancouver.  The short film is at 1pm and the feature film is at 2pm.

The multiple award-winning films (12 awards in total!) have been doing the international film festival circuits, preventing the Everitt family from showing them to the public: until now!  Please note that both films are completely different.  Different directors, different producers, different adventures, and much of the footage used is different in each film.

Seats are limited to 150 per film and will sell out, so please don't delay and grab your tickets online according to which film you would like to attend.  If you would like to come to both, please get tickets for both films.

Check back soon as we will be adding more events!
